Description

As a part of the LIFEPAC® 1st Grade Language Arts curriculum, the Reading Basics Set features five readers with simple stories, as well as a study guide with comprehension questions for the entire series. The readers use a progression of words from 1- and 2-syllable words with basic long and short vowel sounds to more advanced multi-syllable words with more complex phonetic structures. Stories gradually increase in length as well and include a variety of fiction and non-fiction topics. The five reader titles are: Dog in the Tub, Cotton Candy, Oats Are for Goats, Flying My Kite, and The Gold Coin.

Since these flexible readers are based on basic phonics rules and principles, they can be used in conjunction with any systematic phonics program. The Reading Basics Set of five readers contains high-interest stories, made possible by the inclusion of high-frequency words, which are also called sight words or instant words. Each reader begins with a list of instant words used within the stories. Drilling of these sight words is recommended for increased fluency. While this series can be used independently, incorporation of the readers into the LIFEPAC® 1st Grade Language Arts AOP curriculum is detailed within the LIFEPAC® 1st Grade Teacher's Guides.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is LIFEPAC taught and how much work should we do every day?

It is student led and mastery based. All lesson instructions are in the student’s books. Teacher guides give additional ideas and cover the theme as well as provide answer keys. Each unit is intended for 18 days. Roughly that works out to 3 pages per day per subject. However, you can decide how long your school year will be and calculate how many pages per day that would amount to.

What is the difference between a 10-set and full-set?

A 10-set is a student workbook set without a teacher’s guide. A full set is the 10-set student workbook set with a teacher’s guide included.

How do I keep my records and who does the grading?

There is an area in the front of your teacher’s guide to place grades, but we also have student record books and cumulative files you can purchase for keeping records. Because LIFEPAC is a curriculum option, the parent oversees the students daily work, grading and record keeping. As the parent, you will need to make sure you are meeting your state board of education’s requirements.

Is LIFEPAC a complete curriculum?

Yes, it provides the five core subjects: Bible, History & Geography, Language Arts, Math, and Science. It also offers many electives for Middle School and High School students.

Are there other families I can connect with who use LIFEPAC?

Absolutely! There are multiple LIFEPAC Facebook groups available for you to join. Find the one that’s right for you and you’ll never feel alone in homeschooling.
