Frequently Asked Questions

How is LIFEPAC taught and how much work should we do every day?

LIFEPAC consists of 10 worktexts per subject per year that each include instruction, activities, and assessments designed for independent student learning. A typical schedule involves completing one worktext per subject each month, translating to approximately 3–4 pages daily, though families can adjust pacing to suit their needs.

Is LIFEPAC designed for gifted learners or those who have dyslexia?

LIFEPAC’s flexible, self-paced structure allows gifted students to advance quickly and provides the opportunity for focused review where needed. While not specifically tailored for dyslexia, its clear layout and structured approach can be beneficial. Additional resources or accommodations may be necessary to fully support students with dyslexia.

What is mastery learning, and how does LIFEPAC use it?

Mastery learning ensures students fully understand a concept before progressing. In LIFEPAC, each unit focuses on a specific topic, with students required to demonstrate comprehension through self-tests and unit tests before moving on, promoting confidence and retention.

How do I choose the correct grade level for my student?

Grade placement can be based on your child’s age, previous curriculum, or diagnostic assessments. LIFEPAC offers flexibility, allowing you to select different grade levels for each subject to match your child’s proficiency. AOP placement tests can also be used to evaluate readiness. The LIFEPAC Scope & Sequence and sample lessons may also assist in assessing readiness.

How does recordkeeping work for LIFEPAC?

Parents oversee grading and recordkeeping. LIFEPAC provides tools like teacher’s guides with grading sections, student record books, and cumulative files to help track daily assignments, test scores, and overall progress.

As LIFEPAC is a homeschool curriculum, it is not accredited. Accreditation applies to institutions, not curricula, since the accrediting body evaluates not only the curricula but also the teaching and organizational practices. However, LIFEPAC’s comprehensive, mastery-based curriculum meets academic standards, preparing students for college and career after graduation.

Additionally, many colleges and universities now accept homeschool transcripts, so an accredited diploma may not be necessary for students who are on the college education path. Because LIFEPAC is a homeschool curriculum, not a school, parents of a graduating student must provide the high school diploma, which may be purchased on the AOP website here.

If you’re looking for an accredited program that can be completed from home, explore Ignite Christian Academy by AOP.

How involved would I be in teaching and grading with LIFEPAC?

Parental involvement varies by grade level. In early grades, parents provide more direct instruction, while older students work more independently. Parents are responsible for grading assignments and tests, using provided answer keys and guides.

What’s the difference between LIFEPAC and Horizons?

LIFEPAC is a mastery-based, self-paced curriculum suitable for independent learners, covering grades K–12. LIFEPAC curriculum includes core subjects of math, language arts, history & geography, science, and Bible as well as 20 electives.

Specifically, Horizons curriculum includes preK for 3-4, K-8 math, K-3 phonics & reading, grades 1-3 spelling & vocabulary, grades 11-6 penmanship, K-6 health, and PreK-12 PE.

Can I use LIFEPAC with multiple children?
